Kalim Beach - Phuket is a continuation of the northern curve of the coastline of Patong beach just north of the rocky outcroppings. Starting from about the Novotel Resort Hotel Patong to Thavorn Bay Resort consists of rocky, but quiet beaches and an interesting road leading up into hills with high viewpoints and a few good quality restaurants serving Thai food situated on the edge and top.
Kalim has a small charming beach with rocky points and coral. Kalim is a quiet alternative, yet conveniently near to tourist services and nightlife. The beach itself is a mixture of sand and small rocks.
The waters contain extensive coral reefs which you can reach by foot at low tide (you must wear shoes as some of the rocks are very sharp). At low tide, the northern end of Kalim Beach reveals a mass of corals right off shore which can be a interesting place to comb around. The corals may appear a dull brown color but they contain an amazing number of living creatures. Seashells, crustaceans, tiny fishes, starfish and sea cucumbers are found in puddles of the water catchment. The northern half of the beach is exposed to the monsoon winds, and from June to September on occasion waves big enough to surf break here.
Some housing compounds are now being built on the hillsides and the whole area is steadily moving upmarket. At the back of the beach are accommodations.
